Does Bill Gates know about this???
Today I had a shocking experience, that I must tally on the plus side for Microsoft. I started configuring my new windows 2003 servers, and found it was far far easier to set up a streaming media server than ever before. The new roles approach lets you set up your server in seconds. I am normally not one to enjoy GUI's as I mentions in my previous post (When GUI's go bad) but, this time Microsoft hit the nail on the head. Within second I had a streaming media server and could test it with the pre-installed file from any computer in my domain. Too cool. What was even better is that I started reading the read me files, (yeah users do read them, mostly while they are waiting for the install to complete) and I found out about a brand new program I have never heard of before. MS Producer!
According to the documentation MS producer, can convert PowerPoint to Steaming video, and you can even add an audio track to the out put. Sort of a boiled down Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro. In fact very VERY boiled down. But the cool thing is that is can import PowerPoint slides and keep the connections so that if you update the slides the movie can easily be updated. Having never heard of the product before I begrudgingly went to google (the source of all knowledge in the world) and searched for MS Producer. To my total amazement MS producer is free to anyone with PowerPoint. Say what? Free? Too cool. I downloaded it immediately, and I kept thinking to myself... Does Bill Gates know about this?
